JINNAH:A FLAWED VISIONARY

ARVIND K PANDEY

Jinnah was a flawed visionary. He failed to vibe with the inherent tendencies of the Indian land. How come that the Muslims and Hindus who had lived together for more than six centuries were going to lose bonhomie in the free India?True, that his western upbringing broadened his approach but in the end he succumbed to the vested interests, failing to realize that Indian soil corresponds with the much greater loftiness.Had it not been so he would have shared platform with Gandhi who believed in the Hindu-Muslim ability to sail together.

Arvind, the vision of Jinnah was to have a land where Islam could be implemented. We got a land but unfortunately Islam could not be implemented here owing to political instabilities.

It would be nicer if we dont judge ple on the outfront and leave judgment for the Day of Judgment...

Dear Fariha Jamil ,

Yes , it’s time for the truth to make its presence felt . But the state of affairs prevailing in Pakistan are indicative of fact that vision of Jinnah was a flawed one . There are enough evidences in pages of History to determine the culpability of Jinnah and others in fragmentation of India .

Dear Fariha Jamil ,

I agree with your viewpoint . However , let’s not forget that pages of History are always there for one to determine the contributions of people involved in making of Pakistan .

Dear Fariha Jamil ,

Like to present some facts to highlight Jinnah’s role in creation of Pakistan .

Jinnah was of the opinion that ” it is extremely difficult to appreciate why our Hindu friends fail to understand the real nature of Islam and Hinduism .They are not religions in the strict sense of the word ,but are , in fact different and distinct social orders and it is a dream that the Hindus and Muslims can ever evolve a common nationality. The misconception of one Indian nation has gone far beyond the limits and is the cause of most of our troubles and will lead India to destruction if we fail to revise our notions in time .

The Hindus and Muslims have two different different religious philosophies ,social customs , literatures ....To yoke together two such nations under a single state ,one as a numerical minority and the other as majority , must lead to growing discontent and final destruction of any fabric that may be so built up for the government of such a state. ”

Gandhiji was against Jinnah’s beliefs . He said : ” I make bold to say that he and those who think like him are rendering no service to Islam .I say this because I feel deeply hurt at what is going in the name of the Muslim League .”

Jinnah also stated that ” I am convinced that true welfare not only of the Muslims but the rest of the India lies in the division of India as proposed by the Lahore Resolution ” .

The following is a record of an interview given by Gandhiji to Stuart Gelder of the ” News Chronicle ” , London , on September 29,1944 , at Bombay .

He(Gandhiji ) was frank and precise .He replied : ” I want to make it clear that I believe Mr Jinnah is sincere , but I think that he is suffering from hallucination when he imagines that an unnatural division of India could bring either happiness or prosperity to the people concerned .It was my suggestion that , provided there was the safeguard of a plebiscite , there could be no sovereignty for the predominantly Muslim areas , but it should be accompanied by bonds of alliance between Hindustan and Pakistan .There should be common policy and a working arrangement on Foreign Affairs ,Defence , Communications and similar matters .This is manifestly vital to the welfare of both parts of India .” This arrangement , Mr. Gandhi said , could not interfere with the internal life of Muslims who would not be subject in any way to Hindu domination .Such a division would not create an artificial split between people who , whatever their religious faiths , are descended from a common stock and are all Indians . ” Unfortunately ” , said Mr. Gandhi , ” Mr. Jinnah would haver none of it and asked me to agree to the principle of two nations entirely separate. ”
