It’s time to acknowledge the harsh truth that mere opening of new colleges is not the right way to change the face of education in India The change needs to start at the elementary level.
We need to be more goal-oriented and focused to bring real changes at all levels. It’s a sad reality that most of the colleges lack infrastructure to impart quality education. Most of them have turned into “vocational centers” which are more interested in awarding a degree than being concerned about the educational excellence of the students.
How can we ignore the fact that there is lack of teachers in the institutions offering higher education. One reason why students are not interested in pursuing research-oriented courses is that there is no conductive environment for the research projects in our colleges.
Lack of grants and half-hearted approach of UGC have forced the bright students to embrace lucrative jobs in corporate world. Let the colleges in India take all steps to be at par with global standards in field of education instead of churning out students having degrees but devoid of proper bent of mind.
