BCCI :Time To Use Money in a Better Way

The sizable sum lying in BCCI’s coffer needs to be used liberally in providing better future to sports people belonging to neglected games. In fact, it’s recent proclamation to raise the standard of other games with its money raise the hope better days for dying sports. It’s no secret that talented players in badminton, chess, etc. fail to excel at International championships, being devoid of better training centers and lack of sponsors to meet their expenses. It’s pursuit of establishing ‘heritage spots’ to preserve the past of Indian cricket is an excellent idea as that would allow the Gen Next to nurture a better vision.

In fact, it would act as window to India’s glorious past in this game, which would motivate the new players to set better standards for themselves. Surprisingly, many present times star players know nothing or little about achievements of former players. The existence of such ‘heritage center’ would certainly prevent from treating’ ignorance as bliss.

I don’t think BCCI has anything to do with the promotion of other sports in India. The BCCI authorities are just a puppet in the hands of giants of market. Moreover keeping in view the politics in the BCCI it will not be very easy for authorities to give a helping hand to other sports in India.

In 2008-09 it has increased its grant for other sports from Rs 50 lakh a year to a whopping Rs 25 crore. It also tied up with the Union ministry of sports and youth welfare for a joint fund, to which it has contributed Rs 15 crore.

There is always a ray of hope.

Why the BCCI management is be fooling the people? They can’t postpone the IPL for the Indian elections just for the sake of profits. Will they spend any penny for other sports in India?

They backed Susmita Singha Roy, the heptathlete who qualified for the Beijing Olympics. The BCCI has given her Rs 15 lakh for getting upgraded on the European circuit. It’s learnt that it has also decided to look at other disciplines and fund sports persons after checking the criteria.

It is in fact very noble idea for the betterment of other sports in India. India can become a superpower in the field of sports provided the players get the required facilities. Being the richest cricket board of the world, BCCI has got enough money which can be utilized for improving the infrastructure for other games.

I too feel it’s not very difficult for BCCI to improve the state of affairs in other sports.
