Swami Vivekananda stated that ‘The various religions that exist in the world ,although they differ in the form of worship they take, are really one.’The likes of Maulana Wahiuddin Khans can alone save the Islam from turning into religion of killers.Islam, like any other religion of the world, allows its followers to manifest one’s divinity.
In this regard we need to have a look what Pope Pope Benedict XVI said in one of its lectures some times back. His words had then generated lot of heat within the Muslim world and the Pope had to offer an apology to the Muslims.

”
In the seventh conversation edited by Professor Khoury, the emperor touches on the theme of the holy war. The emperor-Byzantine emperor Manuel II Paleologus- must have known that sura 2, 256 reads: “There is no compulsion in religion”. According to the experts, this is one of the suras of the early period, when Mohammed was still powerless and under threat. But naturally the emperor also knew the instructions, developed later and recorded in the Qur’an, concerning holy war. Without descending to details, such as the difference in treatment accorded to those who have the “Book” and the “infidels”, he addresses his interlocutor with a startling brusqueness on the central question about the relationship between religion and violence in general, saying: “Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached”. The emperor, after having expressed himself so forcefully, goes on to explain in detail the reasons why spreading the faith through violence is something unreasonable. Violence is incompatible with the nature of God and the nature of the soul. “God”, he says, “is not pleased by blood — and not acting reasonably is contrary to God’s nature. Faith is born of the soul, not the body. Whoever would lead someone to faith needs the ability to speak well and to reason properly, without violence and threats… To convince a reasonable soul, one does not need a strong arm, or weapons of any kind, or any other means of threatening a person with death…
The decisive statement in this argument against violent conversion is this: not to act in accordance with reason is contrary to God’s nature. The editor, Theodore Khoury, observes: “For the emperor, as a Byzantine shaped by Greek philosophy, this statement is self-evident. But for Muslim teaching, God is absolutely transcendent. His will is not bound up with any of our categories, even that of rationality.” Here Khoury quotes a work of the noted French Muslim R. Arnaldez, who points out that Ibn Hazn went so far as to state that God is not bound even by his own word, and that nothing would oblige him to reveal the truth to us. Were it God’s will, we would even have to practice idolatry.”
Here comes the mother of all questions :Why has Islam which advocates values ,ensuring peace and harmony, has become center stage of blood-thirsty souls -the fake jihadis?

Ironically, elevated souls like Maulana Wahiuddin are burdened with responsibility to get Islam rid off owners of jihadi factory. The grim realities surrounding the vast chunk of Muslim section has to be tackled in a conscious manner. However, those wishing real changes should grasp the fact that time has come to curb the influence of anti-national sentiments operating through them .Thus, while progressive attitudes , social and economic changes come to environ them, these should in no way act as a shield to protect those who are involved in weakening the pillars of this nation.
After all one reason why the Muslim community is trapped in archaic concerns could be traced to its deep connection with outdated perceptions.Their medieval perceptions simply don’t fit into mainstream paradigms. The dubious role of Muslim clerics and Madarassas has to be minimized to raise standard of living of the Muslims.Let’s hope attempts to reform the community don’t get transformed into art of survival of the political blockheads or , for that matter serve the interests of dangerous minds.

It may not be entirely untrue to say that Islam advocates bloodshed. However,it does see the spread of other religions as inimical to its own growth and influence. Muslims are urged to take corrective measures to change such negative perceptions of their immediate world. Muslim intellectuals must leave no stone unturned in bringing Islam out of the shadow of the jihadis and help it regain its lost glory.
There are many good voices in the Islamic world but I am afraid they are not able to register their presence in a significant way.The extremists rule the roost and are dictating terms.
Education and development do play an important role in removing the wrong elements. But we also need to understand that when the foundation of any society rests on wrong beliefs then it’s not very easy to rope in progressive ideals.
The number of brainwashed souls are quite in large number in Islamic world, for whom any exchange with non Islamic countries is a threat for growth of Islam. It’s another thing that they are more interested in having their own way in foreign land be it Australia, France or China.
There are contradictions in every religion whether it be Hindu, Muslim or Christianity. There are extremists in every religion and we have fight back them.
Contradictions govern the human life.I am talking about contradictions that are now strikingly visible to even the dullest soul.
The contradictions prevailing in the Quranic beliefs have given rise to dangerous negative forces, which are hell bent in turning the world into graveyard of innocent souls. We have to stop this bloodsport or else survival for the commoners will become near impossible.
If Islam really believes in brotherhood,it should respect the presence of other religious beliefs instead of considering them to be a danger for its growth!!
Anyway,I am happy that like me you are against the rise of extremists. The role of extremists in any civilized world should be reduced to nothingness.
You are so right about the contradictions being in every religion. Religion might be the opium of the masses but it is also a very lucrative business and effective tool for anyone who wants to exploit it.
Here is an example of what nefarious purposes that it is used for in American politics.
http://www.alternet.org/rights/87665/?page=entire
We can’t fight back because religion is 100% protected from questioning. Nothing else has immunity from the law except religion.
2 sides of the same coin, so if people decide to do good or evil in the name of religion it just depends on which side of the coin was facing them when it landed.
In other words, religion is a dangerous gamble because you can’t predict how people will interpret the mixed messages found in holy texts.
You are very right. Religion is dangerous gamble. In fact religion has done nothing to improve the lives of people rather it has divided the people. Religion is an opium of masses.
The contradictions prevailing in the Muslim society will not be removed by pointing out wrongs in other societies. It’s high time there is collective effort from the sensible minds in the Mulsim world to prevent the dangerous heads from being head on with other non Islamic states.
The way Paklistan is dealing with people involved in Mumbai attack makes me feel disappointed.
Going by your logic, each and every affair of the world is a dangerous gamble! What appears right to us could very well be wrong in the eyes of others.Almost all our actions can be interpretated in number of ways from different perspective. It’s not question of wrong interpretation but our inability to be on par with right set of values.
Many scientific principles have been misused. The abuse of science is now quite evident. But that does not mean that there should be no role of science in our lives.
The religion has stayed in our lives because it has served constructive purposes.Let’s explore its constructive aspects rather than highlighting lesser things associated with it.
For science you need to be able to actually do something. You have to have some evidence, some data, some experiment, some peer review and evaluation, something to get people fund your work. A single person cannot build an atomic fusion reactor in their basement.
With religion a single person can influence a large number of people to to very bad things with nothing more than words. There is no evidence, no experiment, no data, no peer review or evaluation, no product, and people just donate money out of thin air, they get nothing for their money.
I cannot tell people that I am going to build a time machine and ask them for money because I would be sued for fraud. But I can tell just as big a lie and get people to donate money to me in the name of religion and there is nothing anyone can or will do about it.
Religion is the ultimate manipulation. It is the sacred cow of business ventures and despots and dictators because no one has the courage to stand up to it.
”A single person cannot build an atomic fusion reactor in their basement.”
...But a single nuclear bomb can eliminate a whole nation from the world map within couple of hours.
That it is better to let religion kill over a billion people slowly over time?
My point is simple. It’s another thing that complexity that surrounds your being has made you incapable of appreciating the affairs of life in a simple and straight way.
Once a saint asked a man to look at the white sheet of cloth that had a very small black dot in its center. The saint asked the man what did he see?The man said that I saw the black dot in its center. The saint laughed and asked him that why didn’t he notice the whiteness of the sheet ?
We are all like that man.We notice the negativeness associated with all the beautiful phenomenon and waste our time in debating the so-called flaws.
Religion has something beautiful to offer. It has the capacity to provide human beings trapped in all sorts of problems everlasting piece. So let’s explore the better aspects of religion instead instead of making mockery of it.That’s not going to serve any purpose other than making us susceptible to ills of life.
The greatest reality is that it’s beyond the realm of science to make humans really happy.Only religion in league with spirituality can do that. Its high time to resurrect the glory of ideals inherent in major religions.
It’s upon the followers of Islam to see that its tenets are not exploited by the wrong elements. It’s time for them to think why it has become lifeline of dangerous terrorists?
Religion has something beautiful to offer. It has the capacity to provide human beings trapped in all sorts of problems everlasting peace.
All snakes are not poisonous :-)
You are wrong again.Snakes are most likely to bite when they feel threatened, are startled, provoked, or have no means of escape when cornered.
The logic is simple.Don’t mess with the snakes!Anyway, are you aware that snakes prevent the crops from rats etc.?And yes, antivenom is extracted from the snake’s venom :-)
Snake is a very useful creature.Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, isn’t it ?
”
That is my point exactly! It is dangerous, so leave it alone!
”Anyway, are you aware that snakes prevent the crops from rats etc.?”
Yes, snakes just like religion, eradicate undesirable populations, any population that is of another religion are the rats.
”And yes, antivenom is extracted from the snake’s venom :-)”
If you never get bitten, then you never need the the anti venom.
When I say don’t mess it only means that don’t misuse or don’t take undue advantage of religious or scientific perceptions. The same fire that cooks our food could also cause tremendous harm to us.
Anyway, you are indeed quite good at twisting the meaning of statements to make them justify your flawed arguments.
I will once gain say snake’s bite is less lethal that an injection of potassium cyanide !
I will once again say that snake’s bite is less lethal than an injection of potassium cyanide !
We are discussing religion here and the dangers far outweigh any imaginary benefit derived from it. Only extremely immature beings do something just because it feels good without any thought to consequence. Religion keeps people immature. Thousands of years of religion have proven that it is an epic failure and should be abandoned. When something doesn’t work, you don’t keep doing it, you try something else.
My logic is flawless and you know it. You only claim fault in it because you have no rational retort.
It is time for the world to grow up, it is past time. It is time to improve the human condition and that can not be done as long as we are hanging on to childish superstitions and mysticism.
There are still witch hunts in India! There are still people in America claiming divine right to kill and torture. Muslims stoning and beheading people. Jews claiming that they have a right to steal land based on a myth.
These ignorant people would not have a leg to stand on if their stupid religions were not shielding them from justice.
You can’t cut out the sick parts of religion, it is a cancer it has to be completely eradicated or it will just continue to spread.
Good people will continue to be good people, bad people will continue to be bad just like now, the only difference is that we will be able to combat the ignorance that allows the bad people hide behind religion to escape justice.
Are U offering any rational retort?
”.religion is infinitely more dangerous because all it takes to convince people to kill is a little charisma and a holy text.”
”Religion keeps people immature”....
”We are discussing religion here and the dangers far outweigh any imaginary benefit derived from it.”
Are these examples of rational retort?
Thank God ! I am not that rational to present these sort of absurd logic in name of rationality and flawless logic ?
The things like potassium cyanide, cluster bombs, nuclear bomb, missiles and biological weapons etc. are indeed more better than Holy Texts.
Or for that matter souls like Gandhi, Vivekananda,Roman Rolland, Sri Aurobindo and etc. were all the by products immaturity inherent in religion ! Well,I wish to be by side of immaturity inherent in the religion than be by side of rationality expressed in the scientific temperament that produces nuclear bombs!!
In other words, why can’t we just combine the two?The rationality,in my eyes, need to rest on immaturity of the religion!
Those were all the same tools used to kill people in the name of religion too.
”.religion is infinitely more dangerous because all it takes to convince people to kill is a little charisma and a holy text.”
Yes, it was a rational retort and 100% accurate. Getting people to kill, rape, pillage and plunder wasn’t always easy. The bad people would do it willingly without hesitation but the good people had to be conned into it by telling them that God ordered it. That is how you get people to follow you on suicide missions. Sane, rational people won’t do it. What better way to screw up people’s mind than with irrational, illogical, insane religion? It can be done without religion, but it takes a lot more time and effort.
God ordered humans to ”kill, rape, pillage and plunder”.
Religion was introduced to send people on ”suicide missions”.
Religion was introduced to push the wrong people towards wrong deeds.
If they are ” rational retort and 100% accurate”, I wonder what will you have to offer me if you were to engage in irrationality?
I am trying my best to digest your dose of rationality and 100% accurate facts !!
The Quran says Kill anyone who will not convert (Unless they agree to pay a high tax of course) hunt down and kill all pagans, then rape all the women and use the children for slaves. kill any woman suspected of having an affair, when you kill your neighbors steal all of their goods because god wants to pay you for your efforts in spreading his religion. Men control women because men are better, and if the woman does not obey, scold her, kick her out of bed and beat her.
If you think I am joking, you read it! I did, I read it all! It was truly HORRIFYING!
If you want chapter and verse, I can supply that too but it will take pages and pages.
You make so much effort to make me aware of the darker side of the religion. Thanks for that !It helps me to deconstruct my beliefs.
Yes,I was aware of the origin of the statements you made in the previous comment. But I didn’t highlight it as I am not interested in making the debate move away from the main them and instead gets centered on merit and demerit of religion.
But let me have the simplistic view of the whole affair. When a Messiah or Paigamber or Avatara appears on earth he comes with a certain message and mission aimed at elevation of human race. However, with time the real purport of the messages get lost and get replaced by the distorted ones.
I don’t know much about Bible but I do have little knowledge about what’s there in Islam, especially in regard to dubious verses. The Islamic preachers are of the opinion that terrorists have misused the verses to serve their vested interests.Jihad that’s related with inner cleansing has come to mean elimination of Kafirs.Well, I am no Islamic scholar and therefore I just can’t comment on it as what were the real intentions of Paigamber when He made such statements. Though I can sense He would have made them with a different intention than one grasped by the misguided forces.
As far as Hindu religion is concerned I can say with certainty that there is always an attempt on part of the Avatars, saints, scholars and preachers to remove the distortions that creep in at regular intervals. That’s why Hinduism has been such a dynamic religion since time immemorial.
It will a great blunder to think that humans can live without religion.
Science too has good and bad sides. We ignore the bad an further refine the better scientific perceptions.
The same principle governs the world of religion as well.Who has asked the followers to be in tune with distorted views ? Why can’t they adopt the better versions and turn into Mother Teresa or Gandhi?
It’s not the fault of scientific principles that you are using them to wipe out humanity! Then why do you blame the religion? It does not ask to kill or rape. It’s your faulty vision that let’s you view them in wrong light.
If you are using the cricket ball to break someone’s head I don’t think it’s the fault of the cricket ball. You were supposed to play cricket with that ball and you turned it into a weapon! Religion is there to make you in tune with divinity and not at all aimed at producing terrorists.
The views were distorted to begin with!!! No one changed them, they SAID KILL, they said make slaves of people, they said beat slaves and women, they said to subjugate women they said to do every manner of evil!! It was direct instructions.... just ask any Muslim... the text has NOT been changed! The Bible has not been changed either just some versions of it have but the originals haven’t been changed and are still there in the dead sea scrolls. No amount of sophistry can clean that up.
I didn’t need religion to start volunteer work as a kid, I took Red Cross courses and taught other kids how to babysit for handicapped kids. And we had would babysit on Saturdays so the parents could do things with their other kids. No one told me to do it, my parents didn’t do volunteer work, I just saw a neighbor struggling and decided that I could help. I grew up, worked my way through college and taught handicapped kids for years.
If I had been taught that crap about how worthless females are, I would never had the courage to even try to do anything except stay home and make babies. ... what did Mother Theresa do? She would have done exactly the same thing without religion and so would Gandhi....all of the good and none of the drawbacks! Do the right thing just because it is the right thing to do!!!! No rewards, no punishment...just do it! Because it is the LOGICAL thing to do.
If you are capable of doing good without religion by your side then do it.I have no problem with that. But why are you preventing the people from embracing and promoting their respective religion for all the right reasons with right set of intentions as well?
I am aware of the contradictions prevailing in Islamic and Christian beliefs. That’s why I feel it’s high time Islamic and Christian scholars to come forward and remove the confusion in regard both in deeds and letters.
I am not preventing anything, I am trying to persuade people to be good and they can’t good if they allow any religion at all in their lives because there is too much evil built into religion to avoid. It is like walking through a minefield.
I am aware of the contradictions prevailing in Islamic and Christian beliefs. That’s why I feel it’s high time Islamic and Christian scholars to come forward and remove the confusion in regard both in deeds and letters.
You forgot to include Hindu in that list
some of the worst atrocities against women reside there, then there is caste that is also an ultimate evil. You can’t erase that, there are too many copies of it floating around.
How will they change religion?
What are you going to say... Well...it was true in the past that females were just dogs to be used and abused.....but over the years....they somehow turned into human beings.....so now we have to stop killing them and beating them and locking them in the house and starving them and forcing them into marriages as an excuse for having sex with little girls and selling them and trading them to other families as peace offerings and.....in other words we have to treat them as human....so to all you guys who missed out on your chance to own one or two or three or four....sorry but now you will only get one mate and only if she wants you.
That is not going to go over well because first they have to admit that it was all a lie to begin with and they are not going to do that.
I am of the opinion that let’s not set up roadblocks for people interested in doing good with the help of religion.Misdeeds of some people should not be excuse for painting everybody in the wrong colour.
Secondly, I didn’t refer to Hindu religion because your said comment was restricted to Islamic and Christian world.
Anyway,I am aware of the malpractices within Hindu religion.I have already informed you that wheel of reforms never stopped in Hindu religion. That’s why it’s a very dynamic religion ! There are people who are doing a good job by taking note of wrong practices within Hindu religion.
You say the wheels are moving for change in the Hindu religion....well they are moving a a snail’s pace, they are about 2000 years too late.
What changes have ever been made? Where do they write these changes?
I tried to look it up but there were like a bazillion pages, no one can ever read all of that! The sheer volume of it makes it redundant. It would take a life time to read it all and by then you would be dead and it would be too late to put any of it into practice. Even if I could read it all, how would I be able to understand it, some of the words do not have a corresponding meaning in English. I did manage to figure out some of it, like when they say Brahman they mean a priest of some sort.
Do they just have a condensed version of it somewhere? One that at least 60% of Hindus agree with?
There are dozens of versions and translations of the Bible and the Quran and only 3 people agree with each one of them, as evidenced by the need for the 26,000 different groups. lol
Maybe I should save myself some headaches and say.... I don’t know where the universe came from and I don’t care... we are here now and we should try not to screw it up any worse than it already is. Nice, short, honest and to the point.
